About this place
If you are looking for the stimulating punch and rich depth of well-balanced spices, the mapo tofu at Kyokaen makes an enticing destination. Offered as a lunch set, its numbing heat and savory depth pair naturally with steamed white rice. For days when you crave a milder, tangier profile, the sweet-and-sour pork set is another reliable staple, coating freshly fried pork in a glossy sweet-and-sour glaze while keeping its crisp batter intact.
The à la carte menu is just as varied. Cumin-laced stir-fries of lamb or spareribs highlight fragrant spices that pair exceptionally well with drinks. Other wok dishes show off deft control of heat and oil, such as XO sauce seafood fried rice rich with dried scallops, softly scrambled tomato and egg, and stir-fried celery with a satisfying crunch.
Dough-based items and dim sum are also prepared in-house, including boiled dumplings and pan-fried buns filled with chives, egg, and pork, alongside subtly sweet steamed buns and folded huajuan. The dining space accommodates everything from casual counter lunches to shared dinners around a table, and dedicated parking is available on the east side of the building.
